What is the course about?

The course provides an introduction to the positive psychology of happiness.

What will we cover?

The course will give a brief overview of positive psychology and happiness, and then focus on the research findings regarding happiness. Interventions to enhance happiness will be considered and students will be given the opportunity to explore how these might be helpful.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Define Positive Psychology
• State at least 4 benefits of happiness
• State 6 Tips to help you Become Happier.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Introductory: no previous knowledge of psychology of happiness is required. The course should appeal to those who would like to find out more before committing to a longer course on positive psychology and to those interested in personal development.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

A combination of lecturing, group and class discussion, group activities. Participants should be prepared to engage in group activities and work on their own ways to become happier.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Handouts will be given out on the day. It would be useful to have familiarity with one or more of the following books (some are available in libraries): Tim LeBon Achieve Your Potential with Positive Psychology (Hodder 2014); Lyubomirsky, S (2008) /The How of Happiness /(Sphere); Boniwell, I (2007) Positive Psychology in a Nutshell (London: PWBC); Seligman, M. Authentic Happiness (New York: Free Press, 2002).

A well paced and organised course with lots of activities to reinforce the learning. A great day with useful strategies to develop my positive thinking. I would recommend doing it.

Enjoyed the course and found it useful. The tutor was interesting and facilitated a lot of interaction within the group. He didn’t try to tell us that everything he suggested would work for everybody, but instead gave us ideas for what might be worth a go, which I preferred.
