What is the course about?
Pilates Barre Workout is a Pilates class performed in standing, using the ballet barre to assist stability and alignment. Standing Pilates exercises combine the core conditioning and spinal alignment of traditional Pilates, with the benefits of weight bearing strength training for the lower body. In particular the muscles of the hips, thighs, lower legs, feet and ankles are toned.
Neck and shoulder exercises to release range of movement in the shoulder girdle and train the postural strength of the upper back and spine are incorporated as part of each lesson. To complete the whole body approach of this course, spinal mobility and muscle flexibility are integrated in every class.
What will we cover?
Pilates based movement sequences performed in standing at the barre
Training for core and postural muscles of the back and trunk
Toning of lower body muscles, working in parallel and in turned out positions
Shoulder girdle stability and range of movement in the upper body
Flexibility -- whole body approach
Alignment and Balance work.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Perform standing Pilates sequences at the barre with increased strength and endurance
Demonstrate improved core strength, postural alignment and balance
Effectively tone the major muscle groups of the lower body in parallel and turned out positions
Demonstrate increased range of movement, spinal mobility and whole body flexibility
Describe some basic principles of how to exercise effectively for joint health.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for all levels, adaptations and progressions will be offered as appropriate.
The nature iof this workout course places considerable emphasis on use of the joints in the lower body. Prospective students with joint conditions that affect the lower limbs should consult their medical practitioner or physiotherapist prior to enrolling on this course.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Demonstration, follow me, circulation, observation, general group feedback, individual learner support, mini lecture.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Fitted comfortable clothing suitable for exercise. Exercises should be performed in barefoot exercise shoes, bare feet, ballet or jazz slippers depending on individual student's preference.
