What is the course about?
This course aims to help students cultivate this approach to health in their daily lives. If you are interested in weight loss and/or leading a healthier more active lifestyle, then this course can give you the support and boost that you need. Understand the principles of balanced healthy eating and an active lifestyle, together with engaging in an effective accessible exercise programme. Combine advice on weight loss management and exercise in one course. The programme will be enjoyable, varied and inspiring.
Working in a supportive atmosphere, each class consists of three sections: i) group discussion, including tips and advice, on how students are progressing individually each week, ii) topic of the week, a section providing information on a useful area of nutrition or exercise, iii) 30 minutes of moderate exercise designed to burn calories, feel good and have fun to energising music.
What will we cover?
¿ Information about Healthy Eating: e.g. principles of a healthy balanced diet, meal patterns, food labels, different nutritional needs for different people, fluids and hydration.
¿ Advice on health related exercise: e.g. levels of intensity, duration, effective approaches
¿ Tips on how to be more active in daily life
¿ Invigorating, easy to follow, aerobic exercise, including stretch and cool down
¿ Importance of body and mind working together positively towards health goals.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
-Describe the basic components of a healthy balanced diet
-Outline what is effective exercise for weight loss
-List guidelines for weekly activity levels (duration, intensity) for your age group and occupation
-Display improved cardiovascular fitness
-Demonstrate improved strength and flexibility.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is open to everyone. Prospective students who have a health or joint condition that could be made worse by exercise, or who have special dietary requirements, should consult with their health practitioner prior to enrolment.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Weight Loss: Motivational discussions, feedback forum, questions and answers
Exercise: Demonstration and practice, Follow me.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Bring an open mind and be willing to make some changes. Wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear. Bring a bottle of water if you like.
