Learn Japanese with an emphasis on practical use and the development of your listening and speaking skills. You can also learn to read and write Japanese characters. Based on the tutor's own materials.


What is the course about?

To provide students with an understanding of the basics of spoken Japanese. To provide students with the ability to understand simple conversational Japanese and with the confidence to speak and respond in an appropriate way.

What will we cover?

Introducing yourself; food and drink; shopping; numbers; the time; directions.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Use basic greetings

- Introduce yourself

- Use basic numbers

- Order food/drinks

- List names of some public places

- Give/ask for the time

- Ask for simple directions

- Converse in Japanese using simple structures.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginner's course - no previous knowledge required.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Communicative/direct method approach, with the emphasis on developing speaking and listening skills. Methods include question and answer, pair practice, group and whole class work and role-play.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Based on the tutor's own materials.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

- Ready for Japan (LJW16)
- Japanese 1: module 1 in September or January. However, you will be revising some of the work already covered in this introductory course.Please enrol as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
