Continue learning to speak Japanese. The emphasis is on developing your listening and speaking skills, as well as reading and writing Hiragana. Suitable if you have completed 'Japanese 1 fast-track: module 2' or equivalent.

Description

What is the course about?

Learning to communicate more fully and fluently in a wider range of everyday situations and conversations.

What will we cover?

Showing gratitude, receiving hospitality; asking where things are (in a shop, on the street etc); talking about the
weekend; use of adjectives; describing daily routine.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Understand i and na adjectives
- Describe things using I and Na adjectives
- Use modifying nouns / adjective + noun
- Use past form and past negative form of adjectives
- Use Arimasu/Imasu to talk about people and things
- Describe where something is, ie under~, below~, above~ next to~ etc
- Ask where things / people are
- Talk about your weekend using appropriate particles and WH words.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have covered lessons 1-7, and 10-11 of Japanese for Busy People or have an equivalent knowledge of the language. They should be able to read all Hiragana.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Direct communicative approach with oral practice, role-play, group and pair work. Emphasis on speaking and listening. Audio and video cassettes will be used to aid understanding of Japanese culture.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Japanese for Busy People 1 - (Kana Revised Edition) by Kodansha International lesson 8,9 & 13 & 14 or Japanese for Busy People 1 (Revised 3rd Edition) by Kodansha International lesson 8, 9, and 12.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Japanese 2 lower: module 1 in September.
