What is the course about?
This course will help you learn to read and write everyday words and start writing simple sentences.
What will we cover?
Your tutor will decide from a range of topics and ask you what topics you want to cover. Topics may include: alphabet, upper and lower case letters, everyday words and simple sentences.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Start the following:
-read and write the letters of the alphabet
-read, spell and write simple everyday words and sentences.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is a course for fluent speakers of English who want to learn to read and write. It would be helpful if you know some letters and numbers and can copy some simple words.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Teaching will be in a supportive group setting, which involves pair and small group work. The interactive whiteboard, computers and handouts will help your learning. You will be given homework on a regular basis.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
When you successfully complete this course you can join BLPE2D, the second part of First Steps in reading and writing.
