What is the course about?

This is a one day CPD course designed for learners of holistic massage who wish to progress to competent practice of deep tissue massage and gain a Practitioner Certificate. Learners will gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills needed to provide a safe and effective massage treatment using deep tissue techniques to professional standards.

What will we cover?

- Introduction to palpation and trigger points
- Working in side position
- Use of elbows, forearms, knuckles
- Use and importance of posture.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Demonstrate deep tissue skills and working in side position
- Show the correct use of posture
- Demonstrate basic palpatory skills to determine areas of tension/trigger points to focus on in your routine.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Post Graduate/CPD. You will need to have completed a Level 3 qualification in massage (including anatomy and physiology). You will also need to have sufficient literacy, numeracy and ICT skills to include:

Reading: Use different texts to obtain and summarise information; Detect opinion, meaning and bias in writing and respond to points made within a text.

Writing: Use different writing styles, formats and structures. Use formal or informal language for different purposes or audiences. Write complex sentences with few errors.

Speaking and Listening: Listen to information and respond appropriately; Present information clearly and persuasively; Adapt verbal contributions to suit the audience and situation; Make significant contributions in discussions.

Numeracy: Extract information from lists, tables, and diagrams, graphs and charts.

ICT (Information and communication technology): Use ICT systems (Windows, Microsoft Office); Find, select and exchange information via web and email; Work with word processing.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Presentation, practical demonstration, pair work, small and large group work, practical work. This is an intense, practical one day course.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring massage oil, massage couch cover and two large towels. You must wear a professional uniform for your practical exam/assessment. The exam/assessment fee is included in the course. This fee is non-refundable and the exams/assessments must be taken on the date set by the Institute.
