What is the course about?
An exciting 3 day intensive dance class for people aged 60 years and over. Working within a fun and light-hearted atmosphere we aim to improve stamina, coordination, balance, confidence, self-expression and musicality. The classes will consist of a mixture of exercises and dance sequences set to great music and the making of a short dance piece all together directed by the tutor. You will work by yourself and with others on elements of Contemporary and Modern Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Yoga and other fusion styles.
What will we cover?
We will cover warm-up including mobilizing, strengthening, stretching and balancing exercises, moving into dance sequences that will engage rhythm, coordination and travel in Space. The second half of each session will involve creative explorations that will culminate in a short set piece of dance devised together with the participants.

Recognise a wider range of movement
Use greater flexibility, coordination and balance
Demonstrate increased stamina and control of movement
Perform a set piece of dance and expressive movement with ease and confidence.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is for any level of experience from beginners to those people who are already enjoying the benefits of movement and dance. Whilst no particular skills are needed to benefit from this course you should be comfortable with moving and working safely with other people.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely. ¿
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you
could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Group work in a well equipped, modern sprung floor studio with music. It is essential to be ready to start on time. There may be a max of 10 min homework required per day due to the intensive nature of the course.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Bare feet or anti-grip socks should be used except in exceptional cases to be discussed with the teacher. It is
recommended to tie hair back if it is long for safety and comfort and to wear short or long-sleeved tops for the floor work.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
We have ongoing Dance 60+ classes alternatively you might wish to try; Dance for Fun, Body Rhythms, Ballet, Flamenco, Ballroom or Argentine Tango.
