What is the course about?

You will focus on the different menus including the Start menu and learn about the desktop environment and how it differs from previous versions of Windows.
You will learn how to customise Windows 10 – for example by adding keyboard shortcuts – and change settings.
You will focus on and learn how to make the most of the ‘tiles’ system and the different apps. We will look at how to
pin items to the start menu and taskbar, how to use file explorer and how to manage your files and folders as well
as search and view your drives and files.

What will we cover?

We will cover most or all of the following
• the different menus including the Start menu and learning about the desktop environment
• how it differs form pervious versions of Windows
• how to customise Windows 10 – for example by adding keyboard shortcuts – and change settings
• how to make the most of the ‘tiles’ system and the different apps
• how to pin items to the start menu and taskbar
• how to use file explorer and manage your files and folders as well as search and view your drives and files.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

do most or all of the following:
• use Windows 10 with confidence
• use the different menus including the Start menu
• identify key features of the desktop environment and navigate around it.
• identify how it differs from previous versions of Windows
• customise Windows 10 – for example by adding keyboard shortcuts – and change settings
• make the most of the ‘tiles’ system and the different apps
• pin items to the start menu and taskbar
• use file explorer and manage your files and folders as well as search and view your drives and files.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a basic file management course but you need to able to use a keyboard and mouse.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer. Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard,
overhead screen and printed notes. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where approximate, will help you grasp the concepts. Classes are taught in British Sign Language, and written English.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring a USB memory stick, a folder with plastic wallets, pens and paper.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

There are a variety of other courses you could do after this course -
for example: Introduction to InDesign
Level 1 ECDL award in IT user skills.
