Are you considering to or do you already volunteer? This qualification is suitable for you if you are thinking about working as a volunteer or you are already volunteering and will provide you with an insight into the role and an awareness of the personal standards required of you volunteering. It will give you the skills and knowledge you need to either start a volunteer role or develop an existing role. This is an accredited course, Level 1 Award in Volunteering.

What is the course about?

This qualification aims to prepare you for a role with in a voluntary organisation. Ideal if you are thinking or have just started a volunteer role. It aims to make you more aware of the role of a volunteer as well as identify and build on your existiong skills to be a successful volunteer.

What will we cover?

There are 4 areas this course covers:
Understand the role of a volunteer within a voluntary organisation
Understand the activities of voluntary organisations
Identify the skills required to be a successful volunteer
Understand the regulartory frameworks that may apply to being a volunteer.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a level 1 course.

You should already be able to follow verabal and written instructions, express ideas clearly in writing, through writing lists and short pieces of text, and pick out essential information from a variety of texts (including websites and handouts). You should be prepared to discuss ideas in small groups and take part in a short speaking exercise. There will be some homework that will incldue some research.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught in a group using discussion, presentation, computer search, role-play, quizzes and online videos. You can expect to have up to 10 hours a week homework.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All materials are supplied for the course. You should bring a folder for your handouts and a pen.
