Story added 15th Jun 2018

We are delighted to announce that Build’s Percussion Orchestra together with the Royal Academy of Music’s Open Academy will be performing at the Royal Academy of Music on Friday 29 June.

This will be the first time the Percussion Orchestra performs at the Royal Academy of Music in Marylebone. This concert is taking place on Friday 29 June 2018 at 19:30.

Julian West, Head of Open Academy at the Royal Academy of Music, said: ‘Our partnership with Build’s Percussion Orchestra project provides a fantastic opportunity for students to experience working creatively and collaboratively in ways that enable each person to grow and develop. I am always inspired by the originality and authenticity of the Percussion Orchestra’s performances.’

The Percussion Orchestra started in 2015 and is a music project for adults with learning disabilities at Build that aims to create and perform original compositions to public performance standard. The project is a collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music’s Open Academy programme which provides opportunities for their students to engage with communities and projects outside of the usual concert platform. Both groups of students work on each project for three terms and have performed their pieces ‘Come with Us’ and ‘Lifecycles’ in the John Lyon’s theatre at Build. The project harnesses the unique abilities of Build students with the world class instrumental and vocal skills of the Royal Academy of Music players.
