What is the course about?
If you want to learn the basics of consistent letter formation, improve your handwriting or create a simple piece using pen and ink this session is the perfect introduction for you.

What will we cover?
- Basic tools and materials
- One basic script, Italic or Foundational
- Fundamentals of calligraphy such as, letter families, consistency etc.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Demonstrate how to write with a pen held at a specific pen angle
- Write an alphabet with unified letterforms
- Write a quotation or a short piece of text.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for the complete beginner or those who wish to refresh their calligraphy skills. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
During the class there will be group and individual demonstrations. You will be given examples and worksheets to enable you to develop at your own pace.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
No equipment is needed for this workshop. Advice will be given about tools and materials you may wish to purchase for further study.
