What is the course about?
This is a fully immersive and practical course in which you will gain valuable ‘hands on’ experience of the entire technical process involved in mounting a Theatre production to professional standards. You will develop skills and gain insight into the core areas of stage management, lighting, sound and theatrical process from initial rehearsal through to performance week. You will work closely with the director and alongside the performing students that are completing the Access to HE diploma. Working in role you will form part of the technical team that meets the design and full technical demands of the terms production which will be performed to the public, on site in the John Lyons Theatre.
This is a unique opportunity to develop your professional skills and add a production to your professional C.V, so that you can begin to apply for work in the Theatre industry.
This is a demanding course in which you will work collaboratively and creatively and be fully present throughout the entire course.
You will be required to attend full technical rehearsals and all performances on the following dates:
Thursdays 12th April to 17th May 18:30–21:30
Saturdays 14th April to 19th May: 10:00–17:30
Performance week dates
Mon 21 May, 18:30–22:00: rehearsal
Tue 22 May, 18:30–22:00: rehearsal
Wed 23 May, 18:30–22:00: rehearsal
Thu 24 May, 18:30–22:00: performance
Fri 25 May, 18:30–22:00: performance
Sat 26 May, 13:00–16:30: performance
Sat 26 May, 18:30–22:00: performance.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
A willingness to get involved is the only requirement. If you have any previous experience in lighting or sound, this course will enable you to build upon your existing skills.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Practically in rehearsals with the company.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Black clothing for production, steel toe cap trainers or boots in black for work in the theatre.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Further productions with City lit performing arts (plays and opera productions).
