Time: 15:00 - 17:00
Location: KS - Keeley Street
Tutor: Jacqueline Pert

This masterclass is fast paced and challenges you to extend and polish your dance technique and performance work.

What is the course about?

This is an advanced tap class where you must be secure in your basic technique, tap terminology and confident to be able to work individually as well as in a group. It is important to have a good understanding of rhythm, tempo, beat and syncopation. Hard work and fun are the aims for this course.

What will we cover?

The classes will further expand and develop your knowledge of tap and will develop the dancer's ability to improvise. Acapella rhythms will also be explored. Technical development to tackle and improve more challenging steps for the dancer as well as use of arms and body to enhance performance.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

By the end of the course you should be able to dance with confidence the more challenging steps (pick ups, wings, maxi fords etc.) and rhythms. You should be able to dance to various rhythms, styles of music, and be comfortable with syncopation.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for students with a reasonably high level of tap experience and should have completed the improvers/intermediate level classes or equivalent.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

As a group and individually.

You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

It is essential to have good shoes and Tap shoes are necessary for this class. Having the correct shoes can really improve your technique and give you a much better feeling for the style of dance. The Tap shoes should be fitted with tap plates using screw fittings (no rivets). There are specialist stockists in and around Covent Garden which can provide appropriate footwear. Clothing should be comfortable and loose.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Speak to the tutor about other advanced or intermediate classes.
