Learn to make felt, create a quilt, or draw using the sewing machine. Create you own printed, embellished, or constructed textiles for application in fashion or interiors, or as textile art. Develop a creative and experimental sketchbook. Explore the surface qualities of drawing and mark-making with the layered possibilities of mixed-media and hand stitch. You'll have the chance to generate visual research and ideas towards a personal project.

Learn the basics of handweaving on a frame loom. Explore traditional rug making techniques to create raised surface decoration and handweaving in plain weave pattern. Create a series of samples, and design and create your own contemporary weave-combining techniques.

Explore contemporary felting processes such as the ‘seamless’ technique to create 3D structures and ‘nuno’, where fabrics are bonded to the surface to make dynamic textural effects. Create several samples or one resolved piece.
Explore drawing and printing in the studio, before digitising and manipulating your designs using Photoshop. Suitable for students with a creative background. Photoshop experience preferred but not essential.

Take your textiles to another level with this stimulating two year course. Open up new perspectives for your work as you explore a range of technical and visual research methods in response to a theme. These will include approaches to drawing, contextual studies, mixed media, dye and print, stitch and constructed textiles. You will be supported throughout by regular tutorials and workshops that stretch your individual textile practice. The course will culminate in an offsite exhibition at the end of year two. Applications for this course will be reviewed in the first week of July and then we'll be in touch to arrange an informal interview so you can discuss the course further and show us examples of your work. The first set of interviews will take place on the 10th and 11th of July 2018. Further interview dates will be arranged closer to the time.

Investigate mixed-media textiles through this project-based course which introduces a variety of materials, techniques and design processes. You will develop a creative portfolio of textile samples using sketchbook research and finally work towards a finished piece.
