What is the course about?
The course enables students to communicate in a Spanish-speaking country in everyday situations and to enjoy the language culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
What will we cover?
Invitations, means of transport, directions, saying what you did last weekend, describing people and places in the past, describing objects, talking about habits in the past.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- ask for information about transport
- ask for and give directions
- say what you did last weekend

- describe people, places and things in the past
- talk about habits in the past.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have completed Spanish 2 lower: module 1 & 2 or have an equivalent knowledge of the language.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is based on the communicative approach:
- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Textbook & exercise book: Based on units 11-15 of “Ele Actual A2, libro del alumno”, SM Publishers (ISBN: 9788467547474) and “Ele Actual A2, Cuaderno de ejercicios” (ISBN: 9788467547481).
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
LBS08 or LBS22 Spanish 2 revision course in summer or Spanish 2 upper: module 1 in September. Please enrol early as spaces cannot be guaranteed.
