Develop your basic listening and speaking skills in Spanish. Suitable if you have completed 'Spanish 1: module 1 intensive' or equivalent (approximately 15 hours of learning).

What is the course about?

The course aims to enable you to communicate in a Spanish-speaking country in everyday situations.

What will we cover?

Buying items in shops, numbers, describing places and towns, the weather, public places and directions.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- buy items in shops
- talk about quantities and prices
- describe places, cities and towns
- ask for and tell the time
- ask/give directions.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have completed Spanish beginners 1 (daytime) or have an equivalent knowledge of Spanish (15 hours of Spanish approximately).

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Communicative, functional approach with emphasis on speaking and listening. Pair and group work; role play; games; audio-visual methods. You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables).
