What is the course about?
The course will enable students to communicate more fluently in a wider range of everyday situations and conversations. The course will also give an insight into cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries.
What will we cover?
Saying what you are doing, food and drink, past tense, asking for permission and favours, invitations, means of transport, directions, saying what you did last weekend, describing people and places in the past, describing objects, talking about habits in the past.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- say what you are doing
- offer food and drinks (accept or refuse)
- talk about the past
- ask for permission and favours
- invite people to go out (accept and refuse)
- ask for information about transport
- ask for and give directions
- say what you did last weekend
- describe objects
- describe people, places and things in the past
- talk about habits in the past.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is intended for students who have completed Spanish 1 fast-track: modules 1 & 2 or who have an equivalent level of Spanish.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is based on the communicative approach:
- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

LBS08 Spanish 2 revision course in summer.
Spanish 2 upper: module 1 or LS210 Spanish 2 fast track: module 1A in September. Please enrol as soon as possible as spaces cannot be guaranteed.
