Further develop your listening and speaking skills and gain an insight into aspects of Russian culture.Suitable if you have completed Russian 3:module 2 or equivalent.


What is the course about?

This course aims to increase your fluency in everyday topics and to give you a chance to speak, using a fairly simple Russian vocabulary, making you more confident in everyday situations. At the same time it widens your knowledge of grammatical structures and vocabulary.

What will we cover?

Themes: In the restaurant, description of a person’s appearance, clothes, theatre, cinema.
Grammar: verbs if motion, revision of case endings, conditional sentences, verbal aspects, imperative.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- talk about Russian dishes and types of places to eat;

- describe a person’s appearance and clothes;

- talk about theatre and cinema.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed a two-year course and 'Russian 3 module 2' or have an equivalent knowledge of the language.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g using money, telling the time, etc). It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basic (such as nouns and verbs) and more intermdediate grammar terminology.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.
