Basketry

We offer a number of courses in basket making, ranging from the two-year Build Basketry Course, covering a great many techniques, to short courses specialising in willow or rush and other, less traditional materials and techniques, such as random weave. There are courses for both beginners and those with some experience.

  2. Basketry: hexagonal plaiting

    Hexagonal plaiting, a three-directional plaited basketry technique, is used to create open-weave, strong but light basketry structures, and is a versatile method which can be used for creating contemporary 3D woven forms.

  3. Basketry: Burkina Faso technique

    The ‘Burkina Faso’ technique is a simple plait, originally used for making open-work shepherds’ hats and baskets. It also lends itself to more experimental, spiralling sculptural forms. It is a simple relation to that of the stunning Périgord basket.
