Overcoming procrastination

Course Dates: 05/11/19
Time: 10:30 - 17:30
Location: KS - Keeley Street

Do you constantly put things off? Do you put aside small tasks, like paying a bill, or big life choices, like ending a relationship? Explore why you procrastinate and learn techniques to help make decisions.

What is the course about?

If you are always putting things off, or feel stressed about not making decisions or sticking to those you've made, this course will help you. Understand how putting things off affects you, and find ways to change the pattern. This is an experiential course to help students assess what gets in the way of action and achieving desired aims. It will give you an opportunity to create manageable goals, and open up ways to achieve them.

What will we cover?

- The stages of procrastination, its causes and effects
- How to work with the blocks which get in the way of action and decision-making
- The beliefs and attitudes about yourself which stand in the way of action
- Achievable ways to manage your time and life as you would like it.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Describe your own unhelpful patterns
- Identify three benefits of changing your pattern
- Design a personal procrastination programme.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No prior training, experience or skills are necessary, just a willingness to take part. The course is interactive, so students need to demonstrate a reasonable level of spoken English in order to benefit from the course. Students are asked to consider particular areas in which overcoming procrastination would improve their lives.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course offers a mix of student-led exercises and tutor input. Classes are interactive; students are encouraged to draw on their own experiences and feelings and to be open to those of other students. The setting will be supportive, confidential and safe. There will be theoretical input by the tutor, and exercises for work in pairs and small groups, with adequate time for group discussion and review.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No. You will be given useful handouts during the workshop, and recommendations for further reading.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

There are a number of interesting courses in personal development at Build which you might like to do next, such as: Stress, am I missing the message? (PG657); Finding purpose (PG653); Enterprising thinking (PG647); Reaching and becoming your own potential (PG656).

I've yet to have a sub-standard course at Build, but this one surprised me most pleasantly. Wonderful tutor - impeccably well prepared and organized, genuinely relevant and useful content, perfect class size for lively interaction ... Each of the ten students walked away with amazing insights and ideas for future improvements. Attending this course is the best thing I have done for myself for a while.
