What is the course about?
Continue to break down the blocks - emotional, physical and psychological - that separate actors from the expression of their natural impulses in performance. The aim is to challenge and expand you and create a more aware, connected performer.
What will we cover?
We will use a variety of method exercises including private moments, song exercises and object exercises. It will incorporate impulse exercises and physical work.
Please note that acting classes by their very nature can involve exercises and the exploration of material that some students may find challenging.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Identify where your acting blocks lie.
Recognise and use appropriate exercises to free up those blocks.
Find new modes of expression, rather than relying on the same old 'style'.
Be more open to work/play with your fellow performers.
Adapt more rapidly to direction.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is for students with a courageous attitude towards their work.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythm.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
This is a practical course where you are required to prepare and present exercises as individuals, in pairs or as a group for analysis and development.
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You will need a notebook and pen and loose clothing you can move in. Jeans are not recommended.
