What is the course about?
This course introduces you to the basics of crafting a cuff or bracelet from high quality vegetable tanned leather. You'll be taught basic leather-working techniques including how to join and decorate leather.
What will we cover?
- Make a simple bracelet or cuff to learn basic leather-working and finishing skills
- Learn some surface decoration techniques.

By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Construct a simple cuff or bracelet
- Produce surface-decorated leather samples.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is for all levels, from complete beginners to more experienced jewellers who have never tried working in leather before.
You do need to be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information. You should be happy using numbers and able to do simple measurements.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Through demonstrations, practical work and discussions. You will be taught as a group and helped individually as required. Handouts will accompany demonstrations. All the work will be completed within the day's class.

Tania Clarke Hall
Tania is an award-winning jeweller working in leather. Influenced by her background in chemistry and a love of Japanese design with its wabi-sabi aesthetic, Tania’s bold and dramatic pieces are designed with a deceptively simple economy of line. She delights in moulding, slashing, and colouring leather using experimental and innovative techniques that continually push the boundaries of her medium. Tania’s jewellery has received much critical acclaim; her work has sold in the V&A, Tate Britain and Tate Modern, and is stocked in New York and Chicago and leading galleries in the UK and Europe. .
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
We supply basic leather, tools, scalpels, glue and fixings for you to practice the techniques taught and to construct a cuff or bracelet.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
