What is the course about?
An exploration of the various villages which are the heart of Londons quartiers.
What will we cover?
If London is made up of a collection of villages, at its heart are the quartiers: Soho, St. James, Covent Garden, Spitalfields, Bloomsbury, Mayfair, Clerkenwell, St James’s- whose characters and appearances are quite distinct even today. This course explores the historical reasons for this in terms of the origin of the quartier, and the people who have lived there over the centuries - and seeks to explain each quartier's unique character.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Identify the origins of each quartier
- Explain the forces that have shaped the character of each quartier.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
