This course offers insights into your personal experience of bereavement and loss. Discover what theory and research has revealed about bereavement, and explore your own process in a safe, confidential space.


What is the course about?

You will gain a greater understanding of your own unique bereavement experience, reflecting on how you are affected and how you might cope with future bereavements.

What will we cover?

Introduction to bereavement issues, bereavement models, and cultural attitudes which affect the way we deal with bereavement. Having an understanding of how we relate to other people through our own personal bereavement process.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Identify your own bereavement issues
- Describe more than one model of bereavement
- Share experiences related to bereavement with a group of like-minded people
- Gain self-awareness related to your own coping strategies.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge required. This workshop is aimed at people who have experience of bereavement at any time in their lives with a personal interest in the subject.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Tutor input and discussion; experiential work in pairs and small groups; using your own histories and case studies and role play exercises.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

None. A reading list will be given. A link will be emailed to you before the course so you can download handouts. Bibliography provided.
