What is the course about?
Come and sing 'easy listening' / 'crooning' style : we'll draw from influential vocalists such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Peggy Lee, Dean Martin.
What will we cover?
Vocal technique, breathing, projection, and 'styling'. Understand swing, latin and ballad feel. Be aware of song form and arrangements. Count in a song in the chosen tempo and correct feel. Microphone technique. Speak the lingo when talking to your accompanist.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Sing an arrangement of a chosen song in an appropriate key, with a pianist.
Have an expanded repertoire of classic jazz tunes.
Enjoy an increased awareness of jazz protocols and the genre.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The ability to sing in tune and in time is essential. Beginners to intermediate level singers are welcome. Enthusiasm and discipline will be of advantage.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Tutor demonstration of songs, and recordings will guide you. Singing as a group, and on your own. Bring a devide to record parts of class, and be prepared to learn a song or two for performance.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Music sheets supplied. Bring a device to record the first session at least.
