Suitable if you have completed module 2 or equivalent. Further develop your listening and speaking skills in Japanese. Based on Japanese for Busy People 1.


What is the course about?

You will learn to communicate more fully and fluently in a wider range of everyday situations and conversations. You will also strengthen the grammar points you have already studied previously.

What will we cover?

Asking for a delivery, making requests, asking and giving directions on the street or in the taxi etc., finding your way on the transport system, making inquiries and buying tickets, asking for permission, refuse politely.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Ask for items to be delivered using various counting systems and colours
- Give directions
- Ask for times of trains and directions
- Ask for permission using te-forms.
- Refuse using nai-form
- Refuse permission politely
- Change verbs into nai-form according to the rules
- Understand some basic kanji characters.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed Japanese for Busy People 1 -revised edition 3 ( Lessons 1- 17,24 & 25 ) or have an equivalent knowledge of the language and be fluent in Hiragana and Katakana.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Japanese 2 upper: module 1 in September.

A well paced and steady progression into Japanese. The tutor is excellent, and enthusiastic, and a very good teacher, who puts together good exercises to introduce a new topic, and homework to reinforce it.
