Do you want to learn the skills you need for office work or everyday life, and gain a qualification? On this course, you will learn the core software applications required in every workplace. The course is made up of four modules: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Improving Productivity using IT. If you pass, you will receive the ‘BCS level 2 ECDL Certificate in IT Application Skills’. This course is ideal if you have some working knowledge of Word, Powerpoint and Excel, but want to be confident you can use their most essential elements.

These courses are free to students who are on (a) Jobseekers' Allowance; (b) Employment & Support Allowance (WRAG); or (c) other state benefits, earn less than £330 a month and are doing the course to find work or move into more sustainable employment. Call 222-66-889-99 for more information.

What is the course about?

Using a computer effectively is now an essential skill. ECDL is the world's number one IT user qualification and is recognised by employers in the UK and all over the globe as a benchmark for IT competence. Gaining this qualification will improve your employment prospects and allow you to prove your IT skills if you are looking for a job or promotion at work. The course is a full level 2 qualification and is comprised of four units. You will need to pass all four units to be awarded the BCS Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Extra). You will gain confidence, knowledge and understanding of the three main Microsoft applications required in the workplace - Word, Excel and PowerPoint – as well as improve your productivity through IT use.

To gain entry on this course you need to be a confident computer user with an understanding of file management. You do not need extensive experience of Word, Excel or PowerPoint as these applications will be taught on the course.

What will we cover?

ECDL Level 2 is made up of 4 modules:

Word processing software. You will focus on the use of Word to
• create documents
• manipulate and format text
• insert and manipulate images within a document
• import objects and graphics
• use mail merge tools
• create, manipulate and format tables
• preview and print documents

Spreadsheet software. You will focus on Excel to:
• understand the basic concepts of spreadsheets
• create a spreadsheet
• insert and format data
• create, format and adjust charts
• create formulae and functions and copy them to other cells
• apply settings for printing

Presentation software. You will focus on PowerPoint to:
• create, format, modify and prepare presentations using different slide layouts using PowerPoint
• duplicate and move text, images, charts
• create and modify organisational charts
• apply slide transitions and animation effects
• apply slide designs using presets and templates
• apply various print options

Improving productivity using IT. You will develop your skills to:
• plan, evaluate and improve procedures involving the use of IT tools and systems in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of work activities

You will cover all the main areas of these programs to become a competent use of them.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should be a confident computer user with good file management skills. If you have completed ECDL Level 1 at another training provider, you should bring proof of successful completion of level 1 to your interview.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer and you will be encouraged to practise as much as possible. An interactive whiteboard will help make demonstrations easy to understand. It will be a relaxed learning environment and step by step learning will help you become more skilled. You will have lots of opportunities to ask questions and address areas you need help in.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The non-refundable Examination Fee is included in the fee.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

There are many courses you can do after this one. ECDL Level 3: Advanced is the direct progression, but we also have a number of intermediate and advanced courses in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint which are specifically geared to helping you in the workplace. There is also a Pathway to ECDL if you are not sure you want to go straight to Level 3.

I have found that this course has given me more knowledge then I had expected, the teaching style has been extremely good, the classroom environment has been easy to deal with and I have been able to participate with the rest of the students that I would normally struggle with.

I attended this course this September this year 2016.

I really enjoyed the course and the way it was taught, as a visual learner.

I found it easy to absorb the the information presented to me. If you are looking to go into office work, like administration etc then you will find this course useful as it cover all the Microsoft suites like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and productivity.
