Description

What is the course about?

This course examines the processes of acting and is aimed specifically at beginners, newcomers or those returning to acting. You will build confidence and develop your creative skills in exploring character and scenes in a range of scenarios. Learning is through fun simple exercises that begin with theatre games and build towards text work.

What will we cover?

Drama games and group exercises
Improvisation
Creating a character
Scene analysis into performance
Script work: Monologue and Duologues.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Work confidently in dealing with the process of creating a character from scratch and apply this technique to an unfamiliar text both individually and with a partner to a high level of truth and believability.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners and those returning to acting following a break.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Active learning with some homework.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Soft shoes and comfortable clothing that you can move freely in. Writing materials.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Sign up to one of our longer courses scheduled in September. You could continue on at beginners level or if on the advice of your tutor, sign up for an improvers class.

Great course, the tutor was very down to earth, funny and inspirational and great atmosphere in the class. Well worth the price as an introduction to acting and for challenging introversion! I would definitely recommend

The course was amazing. It really gave you a great insight into acting. The best part of the course was definitely the teacher who really made the class interesting and exciting.

I thought that [the tutor] was an inspirational teacher who achieved much with the group, and dealt well with one or two students who were challenging recipients of what he was trying to encourage. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and progressive course.
