What is the course about?
This course will increase your confidence in Icelandic, consolidating and building upon previous knowledge and
practising a wider variety of everyday situations, with an emphasis on speaking and listening.
What will we cover?
Icelandic culture , daily life, holidays and popular past times.
Grammar- past participle, weak and strong verbs, the imperative mood and the genitive case.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- talk about seasonal activities
- describe your domestic life and employment
- use adjectives to describe feelings and demeanour
- ask and respond to questions using past tense and past participle
- describe your summer holidays
- discuss domestic tourism in Iceland
- describe nature
- be able to conjugate all common verbs in the present tense
- talk about home country
- decline nouns in all cases.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is for students who have done at least 1.5 years of Icelandic studies.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The lessons are based on the communicative approach. The emphasis is put on speaking and listening. There will be pair and group work as well as role-plays. Audio-visual techniques will be included whenever appropriate. Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework.
