What is the course about?
This course will increase your confidence in Hungarian, consolidating and building upon previous knowledge and practising a wider variety of everyday situations, with an emphasis on speaking.and listening.
What will we cover?
Topics : physical description, clothes, hobbies, talk about people's mood and behaviour
Grammar : irregular verbs, past tense, future, adjectives, comparatives.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Describe places in town
- Talk what you have done at the week-end
- Describe someone physically
- Describe the character of someone
- Talk about clothes and buy clothes
- Compare clothes and people using adjectives
- Talk about your holiday plan in the near future.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is for near beginners – students should have completed Hungarian 1: module 2 or have equivalent knowledge of the language.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The lessons are based on the communicative approach. The emphasis is put on speaking and listening. There will be pair and group work as well as role-plays. Audio-visual techniques will be included whenever appropriate. Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Your tutor will advise you on what to do next. If there is enough interest, we may be able to offer year 2 Hungarian in the next academic year (2018/19).
