What is the course about?
The emphasis of this communicative course is on improving oral skills in everyday situations as well as revision of basic grammar structures and word order.
What will we cover?
Daily routine, work and leisure, on holidays, moving around town.
Grammar: revision of word order in main and subordinate clauses, cases, prepositions, future and perfect tense. You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- describe your daily routine in detail
- speak about your work and leisure interests
- speak about past holidays and express plans for the future
- give and understand directions
- use prepositions with greater confidence.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have studied German for at least 2 years for 1 1/2 hrs per week or attended the Fast track course or similar for 3 hrs per week

It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation. It would be helpful if you had knowledge of more intermediate grammar terminology such as: dative, accusative, subordinate and main clause.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The emphasis of this course is on speaking and listening. Methods include: pair work, group work, and role plays, some written tasks and grammar explanations.
The tutor is going to set some homework.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Materials will be provided by the tutor.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
German 2 upper: module 1. More advanced students might be able to do German 3 lower, module 1.
