I picked the Foundation course because after some great experiences in acting I had always wondered what it would be like to get formal training but had never been able to find the time alongside my long working hours. Foundation in Drama has just 9 contact hours per week (plus a few hours for prep/home work) and the structure is similar to traditional drama schools. It therefore gave me the opportunity to get some formal drama training whilst being able to work. I was also drawn to the fact that there would be a large age range of the people doing the course. There is not doubt that in acting it is the tutors that make the experience and I was fortunate to get three tutors that really inspired and encouraged me. They had different personalities but were all very passionate about their area and really good at passing on what they knew. I leaned a lot.

We were a group of about 14-15, we met every Saturday for a full day of practical work. Our time was split into the three areas - voice work, movement and acting (mostly Stanislavski). Acting classes can be intense and at times demand that you show your vulnerabilities, this led to some challenging moments, but the group was always supportive of each other and we all gelled really well. It is amazing to have a space to let your creative spirit wander and be really playful. It has stretched both my imagination, spontaneity and skills in acting. Also there were some great nights out in the pub unwinding after class.
