What is the course about?
Develop your design skills and generate a series of dynamic graphic solutions by responding to a series of short projects and visual exercises. Explore layout on the page with the creative use of type and image.
This is a great opportunity to try different ways of working, you will be encouraged to take risks and embrace errors and mistakes.

- Layout / composition and balance
- Creative juxtaposition using type and image.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Demonstrate an awareness of composition and balance in layout design.
- Critically evaluate personal design work in order to develop ideas further.
- Responding to a brief.
- Use basic tools in Illustrator.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course would benefit those who have previous experience and wish to try out different ways of working and explore the world of visual communication.
No need to have a design background.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. Please note the Build uses Apple Mac computers in Animation, Cartooning, Digital arts, Film, Graphics, Illustration, Photography and Web design.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.).
