What is the course about?
This course encourages appreciation of the mixed media application of monoprint, relief and intaglio printmaking processes whilst introducing basic printmaking techniques. You will explore line, tone and texture using a variety of materials to produce images.
What will we cover?
Taking an image/idea of your choice as a starting point, you will be introduced to monoprinting, drypoint and relief printing processes using a step-by-step approach. Using these processes, you will create plates and develop images using a variety of techniques in both monochrome and colour.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Make drypoint and monotype images
- Print plates/blocks in both monochrome and colour using intaglio and relief processes.
- Develop images by experimenting with colour printing techniques
- Use the print room equipment safely and effectively.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Through demonstrations and practical assignments, individual tutoring and group discussion.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Basic materials will be provided. Please bring sketches, photographs or other visual resources as a starting point to the first session.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Other courses in printmaking run throughout the year and you are encouraged to build on your previous experience by joining one of these courses or you may be encouraged to strengthen your skills in related areas, particularly drawing, on many other courses at Build.
