Course Dates: 29/06/19
Time: 10:00 - 17:00
Location: KS - Keeley Street
Nikki Spencer

Want to know how to organise successful events for your local community or charity, as part of your job or a new

business venture? This practical, one-day course will look at everything from finding venues to press and PR.

What is the course about?

The course will focus on how to make your event a success and will include top tips on everything from event ideas, finding venues and insurance to the importance of press and PR and social media. Nikki Spencer is an established freelance journalist and events entrepreneur.

What will we cover?

• Coming up with event ideas
• Planning and scheduling
• Budgets and making money
• Publicity - including press & PR and social media.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Understand what is involved in putting on a successful event.
Plan and deliver the event with improved efficiency and confidence.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an introductory course and does not assume any previous study although you will need a reasonable standard of English to keep up with the course. Rather than being aimed at those who want a career in events management this is for people from all walks of life - volunteers who have stuck their hand up at a meeting and are now wondering where to start, groups or individuals with a fundraising target to hit or maybe those who have already organised a few events and realise there is room for improvement. Enthusiasm and an open mind are more important than specific skills.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Tutor presentations and discussions with practical exercises.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No, but it is helpful to bring examples relating to any previous events (e.g. flyers, press coverage etc.) with which you may have been involved.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Email marketing using MailChimp, Developing a marketing strategy, Online marketing: a short introduction.

General information and advice on courses at Build is available from the Student Centre and Library on Monday to Friday from 12:00 – 19:00.

I recently attended this one-day course on Events Organising, and I must say I found it to be very helpful, informative, interesting and relevant.

I went there not knowing how best to start, not really knowing what else I need to consider, and how to go about things. When the course had finished, I felt equipped and ready to go. It was brilliant!!

I would recommend this course to anyone who has an interest in planning, or organising any sort of event. To learn what was taught in a day, and to go from not knowing, to knowing what to do, is a credit itself to this course.

Personally, I felt the course was pitched just right as a one-day course, rather than spread over 3-4 weeks.

This is a gem of a course! Well presented. Highly recommended!!
