Creative Photoshop and digital drawing

Course Dates: 01/12/19 - 08/12/19
Time: 10:00 - 17:00
Location: KS - Keeley Street
Stelios Stylianou

Experiment with a new way of working and seeing. Produce drawings and manipulate them using Photoshop to create one fully resolved digitally rendered project.

What is the course about?

This course is for you if you want to develop digital arts skills in an experimental drawing situation. You will be able to draw directly onto the computer using Wacom technology, and manipulate it in Adobe Photoshop.

The digital arts studio is equipped with industry-standard hardware and software. Apple Mac computers are used,
but most of what is taught is also applicable to a Windows environment: tutors will explain differences. You may
wish to take our three-hour single session 'Introduction to using Apple computers' first if you are more used to the
Windows operating system.

What will we cover?

The course will combine an introduction to digital drawing and digital image manipulation. This is not a
traditional drawing class, although some students may wish to apply previous experience within the class.
Experimental use of the drawing tablet with Photoshop is actively encouraged. You will learn digital drawing
techniques, as well as having an introduction to the possibilities offered by Photoshop. This course is useful for
those wishing to explore the possibilities of new digital technologies within a fine art context.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Generate images into Photoshop using digital drawing
Creatively manipulate your drawings using Photoshop
Create a fully resolved digitally-manipulated image for printing.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Although not a necessity, it is useful if you already have a basic understanding of Photoshop.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety
information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to
do simple measurements and calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is an entirely hands-on course, with a 'learning through making' approach.
Use of Adobe Photoshop outside the class will be beneficial which can be downloaded from for a 30 day
trial for free and then for less than £10 per month. Https://

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Books can be recommended but are not essential purchases. Printing costs are covered on the course. You should
buy CDs for storing work, at the advice of the tutor. If you would like to buy art materials for your personal use
outside of the course, Build students receive 10% discount off everything* from Cass Art, the UK's leading art
supplies retailer. Your tutor will advise you on what you should buy. You will need to show your enrolment receipt in-
store to receive your discount. Visit the Charing Cross shop at 13 Charing Cross Road WC2H 0EP or find your local shop at *Terms and conditions apply, visit
