Do you want to sound more English, improve your listening and speak more fluently and confidently? This course will help your English conversations at home, at work and with friends, and help other people understand you better.

You need to have an initial assessment before joining this course. You can come in person. See bildutrapagaran.info/esol for dates. Or you can do an on-line assessment. What is the course about?

In this course, you will practise your fluency and learn to talk about lots of everyday topics – for example, when you first meet someone and need to ask them about their personal life or when you are at work and need to talk to colleagues or your manager. You will learn to talk about the news, songs, culture and places. Your grammar will improve. And you will also focus on your pronunciation especially the individual sounds in English – for example, when to make a short vowel sound or a long one, how to pronounce plurals, past tense and auxiliaries such as ‘do’, ‘does’, ‘has’ and ‘had’.

What will we cover?

• everyday conversations about topics such as the news, weather, culture, personal conversations, speaking with work colleagues, managers and customers in person and by phone
• speaking fluently
• listening for detail in conversations and understanding the general meaning of what people are saying
• how to ask and answer questions in a different tenses
• how to pronounce ‘are’, ‘am’, ‘do’, ‘does’, ‘has’, ‘had’, ‘was’ and ‘were’ in questions, answers and positive and negative sentences
• how to recognise stress in words
• when to use a short vowel sound vs a long vowel sound
• how to pronounce plurals, past simple, and prepositions.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• take part confidently in everyday conversations about topics such as the news, weather, culture, personal conversations, speaking with work colleagues, managers and customers in person and over the phone
• speaking fluently in a variety of everyday conversations
• listening for detail in conversations and understand the general meaning of what people are saying
• ask and answer questions in a different tenses
• pronounce ‘are’, ‘am’, ‘do’, ‘does’, ‘has’, ‘had’, ‘was’ and ‘were’ in questions, answers and positive and negative sentences
• recognise stress in common everyday words
• use a short vowel sound vs a long vowel sound
• pronounce plurals, past simple, and prepositions accurately.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is for students at Entry 3 i.e. pre-intermediate level (B1). It is ideal for anyone who can communicate in basic everyday situations but wants to be more confident, be understood better and understand people more easily at home, at work or in daily life.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This will be an exciting and interactive course with lots of practice. You will record yourself so you can improve. You will need to do some work outside the classroom to get the most from this courses.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs but you should bring a pen, paper and folder to class.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

There are many courses you could do next. You could join one our general E3 ESOL courses with an exam or Preparing for Level 1. You could do a course without an exam such as our Grammar in Practice E3-L1 course. Students at the high end of the level might be able to do Cambridge English: First ESOL Pronunciation Stage 1, Matters of Opinion: Vocabulary in Practice (L1). Our Office skills for ESOL students(Entry 3-Level 1) would also be good course as would ESOL: Finding a Better Job (Entry 3-Level 1). Students at the lower end could do ESOL to help your children, family and friends. Your tutor will advise you on the best course.
