BSL sign principles workshop

Are you on a level 1 or 2 in BSL course? Do you want to expand your knowledge of sign principles so that you can understand BSL grammar and features better? This workshop is taught by a highly experienced teacher and is a great way to focus on this area.


What is the course about?

This workshop is a great opportunity to further your knowledge of specific BSL principles to help your understanding and to improve your signing skills.

What will we cover?

- Handshapes, location, orientation and movement in signs
- NMFs (non manual features) – facial expressions
- Different types and uses of verbs
-Questions verbs.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Have a better and clearer understanding of signing principles.
- Demonstrate an improvement in productive and receptive signing skills.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is designed for those who are currently on a level 1 or 2 BSL course.
You will need to have basic literacy as you will be asked to read simple explanations and instructions.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

- Teacher explanation
- Classroom discussion
- Pairwork practice.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Video resources and books are available for loan from the Build library.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

To continue your learning of BSL, there are a number of workshops aimed at developing your knowledge and skills, such as ‘BSL intensive fingerspelling practice’ and ‘BSL roleshift / referent practice’.
