What is the course about?
Come and learn to play bridge - the most popular indoor game!
What will we cover?
From day one you will play cards with a partner and develop your trick-taking, signalling and defensive skills. The
second half of the course is devoted to learning how to start and end a simple bidding sequence.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- explain the basic rules of bridge
- know what is required to make an opening bid at the one level, and simple responses.
- plan the play of a hand as declarer in no trumps or suit contacts.
- defend the hand, choosing opening leads and use basic defensive signals.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
No previous knowledge of the subject is required, but a good understanding of
English is essential.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Prepared hands and worksheets will be used to introduce bridge concepts and there will be plenty of card play to
consolidate learning. Quizzes to complete in class and at home will be distributed and for those with a PC there is
the option of downloading a bridge programme for practice.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You need only bring note-taking materials.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
The follow-on course, Bridge 1: module 2 - improve your game (UBD16) begins in January.
