What is the course about?

This course will take you beyond the intermediate level and get you using some of the more advanced techniques in Photoshop with confidence. It encourages experimentation with lectures and practical exercises, and is taught using Photoshop CC - (Creative Cloud). It is ideal if you already have good experience in Photoshop but want to make use of the more sophisticated elements, and is specially tailored to photographers wishing to improve their professional practice.

What will we cover?

You will find out about the following tools and techniques, and learn how to use them to create the effects you want:

- use layer masks, clipping masks, and layer styles

- edit, rate, add metadata and call Photoshop Tools from within Bridge
- output using a colour-managed workflow for web and print including soft proofing.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You will need a reasonable understanding of Photoshop - at the very least you should have an understanding of Photoshop layers and selections. You might have already been to another Photoshop course at Build (e.g. Adobe Photoshop for photographers: Stage 1). The course will be taught on Apple Mac computers, but the differences (which are few) for Windows users will be explained when appropriate.

You will need to be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and prepared to take part in group discussion. You should be happy using numbers and able to do simple measurements and calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course structure is flexible. Lectures, practical demonstrations and individual assistance encourage a hands-on approach to solving problems. There is no set work outside the class but you are encouraged to practice the techniques you have learnt.

Use of Adobe Photoshop outside the class will be beneficial which can be downloaded from Adobe.com for a 30 day trial for free and then for less than £10 per month. Https://creative.adobe.com/plans.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs. Handouts will be given to accompany some of the lectures and demonstrations. You may like to buy some reference books to compliment your learning on the course.

If you would like to buy art materials for your personal use outside of the course, Build students receive 10% discount off everything* from Cass Art, the UK's leading art supplies retailer. You will need to show your enrolment receipt in-store to receive your discount.
