This thorough and fun improvers' course will benefit your further vocal development as an actor or professional speaker. You will consolidate work on breath support and explore pitch and resonance.

What is the course about?

Further improving the quality of your voice and speech.

What will we cover?

Relaxation, alignment and posture, breath support, control and pressure, resonance, pitch awareness, articulation and techniques of communication.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Identify your own vocal weaknesses and develop ways to address them.
Display improvements in breath capacity and support using more advanced breathing exercises.
Apply articulation pitch and variety to a whole range of texts and material.
Further develop the resonance of your voice by examining secondary and tertiary areas of resonance.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

For anyone who has completed 'The Actor's Voice' or its equivalent. You should ideally have had some previous vocal training.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Speak English fluently.
• Communicate in group situations.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and respond to a range of texts.
• Take course notes for your own use.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Exercises for the whole class, some pair and small group work. Individual presentations of text, applying the vocal techniques learnt. Some homework is required in the preparation of text pieces.

HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need a notebook and pen and a small hand mirror. You will need to purchase or borrow from the library relevant reading material around the subject.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Many voice and associated subject classes offered by the Drama department, in particular Voice Technique: Improvers.
