Improve your writing skills within the context of academic study - in particular essay writing, planning, interpreting statistics for reports and note taking. Learn how to research your writing, read effectively, structure your writing and develop arguments with evidence. Develop your paragraphing, linking, and writing of introductions and conclusions. Essential for anyone with English as a second language who is currently studying or who wants to.

You need to have an initial assessment before joining this course. You can come in person. See bildutrapagaran.info/esol for dates. Or you can do an on-line assessment. What is the course about?

This course helps you develop your essay writing, note-taking and reading skills to so you can construct well-written academic texts and be prepared for different types of studies. You will focus on how to interpret questions and structure your research appropriately, how to read effectively, take notes and organise them. You will also learn more about paragraphing such as how to structure them and link them. You will develop your overall essay structure and practise different ways of organising your texts particularly when arguing for and against a point of view and learn about providing evidence and reasons for your point of view. We will focus on appropriate style for academic writing as well as referencing and proof reading.

• write accurately using complex grammar forms.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a L2 plus course (C1+). You should be at upper intermediate-advanced level and able to work with academic texts.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This will be a dynamic and creative course taught through a range of activities. You will analyse style and content of academic essays, study the relevant grammar and vocabulary to support your writing and receive regular feedback from you tutor. You will be given homework weekly to consolidate your learning. You are encouraged to read as much as possible outside the classroom.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Handouts and web links will be provided by the tutor. No books are required but please bring pens, paper and a folder to class.
