Enter our textiles competition and see your work displayed at Build

Story added 21st Jan 2016

Do you work in the medium of textiles?
Do you enjoy working to a brief?
Want to see your work on display in our Student Centre and Library?

We’re looking for 5 pieces of student work that respond to the theme  ‘Digital Language’.  This can be interpreted in any way you wish – think abstractly or literally, which ever suits you creative practice.

Entrants must produce a piece of work which, when framed, will be no larger than 120 x 120cm. You may, if you wish, create a series of pieces which when mounted fill this area.

Work will be on display in the Student Centre and Library from May 2016 – May 2017. Submission deadline: 29 April 2016 (extended from 11 April)

We will select 5 winners:

  • 1 overall winner will win £200 of course vouchers, redeemable against any course at Build, plus £50 of vouchers for an art shop
  • 1 runner up will win £100 of course vouchers plus £50 of vouchers for an art shop
  • 3 highly commended winners will receive £50 in course vouchers

The winning designs will be selected by:

  • Liora Ives Vice Principal
  • Clare Abbott, Head of Resources, Careers and Financial Advice
  • Héloïse Parke, Head of Programme for Contemporary Crafts
  • Rachel Gornall, Tutor Co-ordinator for Fashion, Textiles and Basketry

There will also be a ‘student’s choice’ prize where students can vote for their favourite design through a ballot box.

Terms and conditions:

  • You must be enrolled on a course at some point between September 2013 and September 2016 to enter the competition.
  • Work in the medium of textiles, either on fabric or paper, working with stitch, print, dye, knit, transfer or a combination of techniques

  • You are responsible for all costs associated with the design, make and delivery of your work by the deadline.
  • Work must be submitted unframed and in a clean, presentable fashion
  • Entrants must produce a piece of work no larger than 120cm x 120cm. You may create a series of pieces which when mounted fill this area.
  • The judges’ decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into about their decisions.
  • Winning entries will be on display in the Student Centre and Library for one academic year from May 2016 – May 2017.
  • We will frame all the selected entries before they are displayed in the Student Centre and Library.
  • The displayed works remain the property of the artist and are on loan to the college for the agreed period above.
